Today for the Blessed
As drought and civil war consume a Latin American nation, a young man struggles to find the meaning behind the disappearance of his father and the unexpected affections of a beautiful, dangerous, and damaged woman.

When Francisco, a nonpartisan student in a polarized Latin American nation, meets a beautiful stranger, Mara, he can't believe his luck. She tells him they were fated to meet and their destinies are now intertwined. He worries she's a little crazy. But when she tells him she planted a bomb, and that nothing will be the same again, he only has moments to consider her words before he is nearly incinerated in the explosion.
In the civil war sparked by the bombing, choosing sides becomes a matter of life and death for Francisco. Mara’s socialist rebels capture the city and during the fighting, Francisco's conservative father disappears. Francisco and his mother find themselves trapped behind enemy lines. Mara comes to his rescue and gives Francisco everything he thinks he wants: food, a job, help finding his father, and sex. His mother is terrified they will have to pay an awful price for these favors, but Francisco learns that Mara deepest desire isn't romantic or political. She's searching for absolution.
As the bond between Mara and Francisco deepens, it threatens to unravel them both. Francisco must decide if he will accept or fight the fate Mara has imposed on him, and, when she needs him most, if he can forgive the unforgivable.
